Nero's Notes is closed. The stock is gone, and the boxes that once held notebooks and pencils are gone, too. The shelves where they sat have new homes.

Customers were brilliant, hoovering up stationery they didn't need and probably didn't want to help Clare and me close it down. The last items went on Thursday morning, and the painters are in on Saturday, readying the office for a new tenant.

Clare, Nero's beating heart for seven years, has been made redundant. The company that ran the business will be wound up in a few months. The investors (me) have "taken a bath," as the saying goes. I've taken a chunk of money, turned it into delicious stationery, and then turned that into a considerably smaller chunk of money.

That wasn't exactly the plan, but it's been a hoot.

It's been a joy to work with Amanda, Scrib, Clare, and Molly. Through the business, I've formed lasting friendships. Some customers have followed me here, and if you're one of them, thank you and welcome.

The domain remains mine. Maybe I'll do something with it in the future, but for now, I will take a break from all things Nero.
